Pro Bono

Bains Partners is committed to the principle of equal access to justice. An in-house committee considers on a case by case basis the eligibility of persons who apply to have us undertake their representation when they are otherwise unable to afford our services.

Criteria to be considered include the financial means of the prospective client, the impact of the case on the applicant’s life, and, most importantly, whether there is the danger of a miscarriage of justice. We also consider whether the applicant is a member of a vulnerable group in society, including visible minorities, and those who can be subject to discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, and/or sexual orientation.

Applications should be forwarded in writing to Bains Partners via fax or e-mail. If circumstances make it difficult to communicate other than by telephone (i.e. where the applicant is in custody), please still refer to the Bains Partners Pro Bono Application Form to help guide discussions.

Bains Partners applies the same criteria, whether or not the applicant has been approved by Legal Aid Ontario for funding. Our committee accepts a limited number of Pro Bono or Legal Aid files per year. The program is maintained as part of our commitment to the principles of Social Justice.
